Samsung Wallet to Add USDC Transfers
- Samsung will add USDC transfers to Samsung Wallet during the last week of October for 82 million compatible United States Galaxy devices.
- Bastion will provide the underlying stablecoin accounts while Coinbase custodies the USDC through Coinbase Prime Vault.
- Samsung is considering future stablecoin payments for online and in-store transactions without official launch dates yet.
Samsung will add USDC transfers to Samsung Wallet during the last week of October, bringing built-in stablecoin access to 82 million compatible Galaxy devices in the United States.
Eligible users will be able to send USDC to crypto wallets and transfer money to bank accounts in more than 60 countries without installing a separate crypto app or managing private keys themselves.
USDC Transfers Will Run Directly Through Samsung Wallet
USDC will be the first stablecoin supported by the service and will appear as the default dollar stablecoin when users select Samsung Wallet’s stablecoin purchase option.
Transfers to compatible crypto wallets can be completed internationally, with Samsung charging no transfer fee. Recipient wallets or exchanges may impose their own charges, while transfer times will depend on blockchain conditions.
Users can also send money to eligible bank accounts in more than 60 countries. Recipients can receive local currency directly without holding USDC or setting up a crypto wallet.
Bastion Will Power Accounts as Coinbase Custodies USDC
Bastion will provide the stablecoin accounts, custody infrastructure and cross-border payment framework behind the service. Coinbase will act as Bastion’s sub-custodian, with USDC safeguarded through Coinbase Prime Vault.
Samsung itself will not hold customer funds or operate as the crypto custodian. Eligible users must be U.S. residents aged 18 or older, complete identity verification and use biometric authentication before initiating transfers. Solana and Sui are also providing blockchain infrastructure support for the rollout.
Stablecoin Payments Could Follow Late-October Launch
The integration expands an existing relationship between Samsung and Coinbase, which previously brought Samsung Pay funding into Coinbase and Coinbase One benefits to eligible Galaxy users.
Samsung is also considering stablecoin payments for online purchases and in-store tap transactions, though those features do not yet have launch dates.
The initial rollout remains limited to eligible U.S. Galaxy users. Samsung says expansion into other markets will depend on local regulation after the late-October launch.
