Hsin-Ju Chuang, a former partner and head of platform at crypto venture firm Hack VC, has died at age 37. Chuang was also the founder of Dystopia Labs and previously worked with Stellar, Solana and Fhenix.
Chuang Pronounced Dead on Aug. 24
According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner, the California Highway Patrol responded to southbound Interstate 15 near Harvard, California, on Aug. 24.
Chuang, a North Las Vegas resident, was pronounced dead at the scene at 9:47 p.m. Authorities have not released autopsy findings or further details about the circumstances.
Chuang Had Publicly Disputed Hack VC
On Aug. 23, Chuang published a lengthy X post describing a dispute with Hack VC. She said she had rejected a settlement that would have required her to remain silent about her experience at the firm.
Chuang alleged that she had been pressured to continue working during a serious medical emergency. She also alleged problems related to her health-insurance coverage after leaving the firm. Chuang said she planned to release evidence supporting her allegations on Aug. 26.
Those claims have not been independently established. No official source has connected the workplace dispute or her post to her death.
Hack VC Disputed Her Account
Hack VC said at the time that its understanding of events “differs materially” from Chuang’s account. The firm later removed its response, saying it did not want to contribute to hostility directed toward her. Hack VC co-founder and managing partner Alexander Pack later addressed Chuang’s death.
“We have not spoken to her directly for over 10 months, and we are not aware of the circumstances of her death.”
Pack also offered condolences to Chuang’s family, friends and former colleagues. Chuang spent about nine years working across the crypto industry and was known for organizing developer events through Dystopia Labs.
