Ondo Finance has signed a memorandum of understanding with Australian financial-services provider Openmarkets Group to explore distributing tokenized financial products to eligible investors in Australia. The companies will also examine tokenizing Australian-listed securities, providing access to offshore tokenized markets and developing supporting market infrastructure.

Openmarkets Could Distribute Ondo Products

The first part of the agreement will assess pathways for Openmarkets to distribute selected Ondo products in Australia, including Ondo Stocks and tokenized U.S. Treasury offerings. Any resulting products remain subject to definitive agreements, due diligence, regulatory analysis and applicable approvals.

Ondo Stocks provides tokenized exposure to U.S.-listed stocks and ETFs. Ondo says the platform had more than 440 assets and about $1.01 billion in total value locked as of August, with $27 billion in company-reported cumulative volume since its September 2025 launch. Ondo Managing Director of Global Business Development Min Lin said:

“Australia is a natural next step in Ondo’s global expansion.”

Partnership Could Extend to Australian Securities

A second workstream will examine products designed specifically for Australia. The companies said that could include tokenized Australian-listed securities, access to offshore tokenized markets and supporting market infrastructure.

The MOU does not mean those products have launched. Neither company has announced which Australian securities could be tokenized, a rollout date or commercial terms for the proposed offerings.

Openmarkets Provides Local Market Infrastructure

Openmarkets operates brokerage, clearing, settlement and wealth-management infrastructure and holds Australian Financial Services Licence 246705. It is also a market participant on the ASX and other Australian trading venues.

Australia’s Digital Asset Framework received Royal Assent on April 8, 2026, extending the AFSL framework to digital asset platforms and tokenized custody platforms. The regime is scheduled to commence on April 9, 2027.

Openmarkets’ existing regulatory status does not by itself establish that every product contemplated under the Ondo agreement can be offered. The companies specifically said distribution remains subject to applicable regulatory requirements and approvals.

Ondo Continues Asia-Pacific Expansion

Australia adds another potential market to Ondo’s broader international expansion. In July, Ondo announced a partnership with SBI Group to explore tokenizing Japanese equities and distributing Ondo products through SBI’s ecosystem.

For now, the Australian agreement remains an exploratory framework rather than a product launch. The next steps will depend on the companies reaching definitive agreements and completing regulatory and product-development work.
