Samsung Wallet Enables USDC Purchases Through Stripe
- Stripe integrated its Crypto Onramp allowing eligible U.S. Samsung Wallet users to purchase USDC.
- The feature is accessible across an eligible footprint of 82 million Galaxy devices.
- Eligible users must live in a supported U.S. jurisdiction and be at least 18.
Stripe declared on Nov. 5 that eligible U.S. Galaxy users could purchase USDC inside Samsung Wallet using its Crypto Onramp service. The integration lets customers fund a stablecoin account through familiar payment methods without first buying tokens on a separate exchange.
Stripe stated that the feature was available across an eligible footprint of 82 million Galaxy devices. That figure describes potential device access, rather than the number of customers who have opened or funded accounts.
Cards and Bank Transfers Fund USDC Purchases
Customers can buy USDC using Samsung Pay, credit and debit cards, or Automated Clearing House (ACH) bank transfers. Stripe’s purchase service handles identity verification, compliance, and fraud prevention as part of the transaction.
Stripe also made Samsung Pay available to other businesses using its Crypto Onramp, extending the payment option beyond Samsung Wallet. Those businesses can offer it through Stripe’s service for converting traditional money into cryptocurrency.
Wallet Supports Transfers and Overseas Bank Payouts
Samsung previously announced plans for users to send USDC to compatible crypto wallets and money to qualifying bank accounts in more than 60 countries. Bank recipients can receive local currency without opening a crypto wallet.
The service separates purchasing from custody: Stripe processes purchases, while Bastion provides the custodial wallet and transfers, with USDC held through Coinbase’s institutional custody. Customers use Samsung Wallet as the interface rather than managing private keys themselves.
Fees and processing times vary by payment method and destination. The amount received, and applicable charges are displayed before confirmation, so buying or transferring USDC is not uniformly free.
Eligibility and Transfer Restrictions Apply
Users must be at least 18, live in a supported U.S. jurisdiction and have a compatible device running Android 13 or later with fingerprint authentication enabled. The feature is unavailable to New York residents.
The account holds digital assets rather than bank deposits. Samsung states that the USDC balances and rewards are not protected by FDIC, NCUA, or SIPC coverage.
External transfers also require matching asset and network support at both ends. Samsung warns that incorrect addresses or unsupported networks can cause permanent losses, and submitted transfer instructions cannot be canceled or reversed.
