IBM has added beta connectivity between its Digital Asset Haven platform and Swift’s blockchain-based shared ledger, which 17 banks are preparing to use for tokenized deposit transactions. IBM also introduced an on-premises beta that lets institutions run digital-asset operations inside their own data centers.

IBM Adds Swift Ledger Connectivity

IBM Digital Asset Haven clients can now connect to Swift’s shared ledger through a beta ISO 20022 Messaging Adapter. The adapter lets institutions instruct tokenized deposit transactions using standard ISO 20022 messages. IBM said this allows banks to use existing payment formats rather than creating separate blockchain-specific messaging workflows.

Swift Prepares 17 Banks for Pilot

Swift said 17 banks across six continents are preparing to pilot tokenized deposit transactions on its ledger. Participants include Citi, HSBC, UBS, Wells Fargo, BNP Paribas, Standard Chartered and DBS.

The ledger is designed to coordinate bank-issued tokenized deposits maintained on participating institutions’ own ledgers. The design is intended to allow transactions to be initiated around the clock before settlement through existing financial infrastructure.

Banks Can Run Platform In-House

IBM is also offering Digital Asset Haven through an on-premises beta deployment on IBM Z and IBM LinuxONE infrastructure. The setup is designed to operate within a client’s own data center without relying on public cloud infrastructure.

IBM said both the application layer and key-management layer can remain inside the institution’s environment. The platform is designed to manage workflows involving digital assets such as stablecoins and tokenized deposits.

Both Capabilities Remain in Beta

IBM has offered Digital Asset Haven through software-as-a-service and hybrid deployment models since October 2025. The new option adds a customer-controlled deployment model for regulated institutions. Tom McPherson, general manager of IBM Z and LinuxONE, said the company is emphasizing institutional control.

“IBM is helping clients participate in emerging digital asset networks while prioritizing control of their most critical financial operations.”
