Saylor Signals Possible Strategy Bitcoin Buy After Two-Week Pause
- Strategy could resume Bitcoin purchases after Michael Saylor posted a social media signal following two consecutive weeks without an acquisition.
- As of Sept. 13, Strategy held 845,050 BTC after previously buying 4,603 Bitcoin for $369.7 million through the week ending Aug. 30.
- An upcoming SEC filing will confirm whether Strategy actually resumed its Bitcoin purchases or directed cash toward other corporate priorities.
Michael Saylor has signaled that Strategy, formerly MicroStrategy, could resume Bitcoin purchases after two consecutive weeks without an acquisition. The executive chairman posted “A little more orange” alongside the company’s Bitcoin holdings chart on Sept. 20, but Strategy has not confirmed a new purchase. The post followed a public exchange over whether Bitcoin’s rebound above $80,000 represented a “dead cat bounce.”
Strategy Has Not Bought Bitcoin for Two Weeks
Strategy’s latest SEC filing said the company did not buy or sell Bitcoin between Sept. 8 and Sept. 13. It also reported no Bitcoin transactions during the preceding period from Aug. 31 through Sept. 7.
As of Sept. 13, Strategy held 845,050 BTC acquired for a total of $63.73 billion. Its average purchase price stood at approximately $75,412 per Bitcoin, including fees and expenses.
Saylor has previously posted Strategy’s Bitcoin acquisition chart before or around some company purchase disclosures. His latest post could indicate another transaction, but no filing had confirmed a purchase as of early Monday.
Last Purchase Added 4,603 Bitcoin
Strategy’s most recent confirmed acquisition covered the week ending Aug. 30. The company bought 4,603 BTC for $369.7 million at an average price of $80,318.
The purchase was funded with proceeds from sales of MSTR common stock through Strategy’s at-the-market program. The transaction brought its holdings to the current 845,050 BTC total.
Strategy has since directed some available cash toward repurchasing preferred shares. Between Sept. 8 and Sept. 13, it spent $139.3 million repurchasing STRC and ended the period with $1.30 billion in USD Cash.
Saylor Pushes Back on ‘Dead Cat’ Claim
The possible purchase signal followed comments from investor Jason Calacanis, who described Bitcoin’s recent rebound as a “dead cat” bounce. Calacanis also criticized Bitcoin’s usefulness for payments and smart contracts. Saylor rejected that characterization and defended Bitcoin primarily as a long-term store of value.
“Digital Capital is the killer app. Preserving wealth across generations is a bigger ambition than entertaining a dinner party. The orange tie stays.”
Next Filing Could Confirm Whether Buying Resumed
Strategy typically discloses Bitcoin acquisitions through SEC filings and updates to its corporate dashboard. Its Sept. 14 filing also identifies the dashboard as an official disclosure channel for Bitcoin purchases and holdings.
Saylor’s post therefore remains a possible signal rather than confirmation of a transaction. The company’s next Bitcoin update will show whether Strategy ended its two-week buying pause. Bitcoin had meanwhile recovered above $80,000.
