DogeOS Opens Public Testnet for Lending, Games and Other Dogecoin Apps
- DogeOS launched its public testnet on Sept. 30 to provide developers with an EVM-compatible environment for building Dogecoin smart-contract applications.
- Teams are developing lending, trading, stablecoin, prediction market and gaming projects including Superposition Finance, Derps, Split Markets, USDoge, PlaysOut and Doge Escape.
- DogeOS has not announced a mainnet launch date, and featured decentralized applications remain in development depending on individual project schedules.
DogeOS has opened its public testnet, giving developers an EVM-compatible environment for building applications around Dogecoin. The network uses DOGE to pay transaction fees and is designed to support smart-contract applications beyond Dogecoin’s traditional payments use case.
The testnet, called DogeOS Chikyū, went live Sept. 30. Developers can use familiar Ethereum tools to deploy and test smart contracts before DogeOS moves toward a mainnet launch.
Lending and Trading Apps Are Being Built
DogeOS said teams are developing applications covering lending, trading, stablecoins and prediction markets. Projects include Superposition Finance for Dogecoin lending, Derps for perpetual trading, Split Markets for options and USDoge for a collateralized stablecoin.
The applications are at different stages of development, and DogeOS said their availability will depend on individual project schedules. Its current testnet documentation also lists featured decentralized applications as coming soon, meaning the public network launch does not indicate that every announced product is already available to users.
Games Expand Dogecoin’s Use Cases
Gaming projects announced for DogeOS include PlaysOut and Doge Escape. PlaysOut has previously outlined Doge-branded mini-games that incorporate DOGE into gameplay and rewards.
DogeOS founder and CEO Jordan Jefferson said the testnet is intended to give developers infrastructure for turning Dogecoin-focused ideas into working applications.
“The testnet gives builders a place to turn ideas for Dogecoin into working applications.”
DogeOS has not announced a mainnet launch date. For now, the public testnet provides developers with a live environment for testing smart contracts, bridging test DOGE and preparing applications ahead of a future production release.
