VanEck Digital Assets requested withdrawal of the registration statement for the proposed VanEck Lido Staked Ethereum ETF on Oct. 14, 2026. The sponsor said it no longer intends to distribute shares, ending its pursuit of the offering under that registration.
VanEck Requests SEC Consent to Withdraw
VanEck submitted the request under Rule 477 of the Securities Act of 1933. It asked the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to consent to withdrawal effective Oct. 14 or at the earliest practicable date afterward.
The request covers the fund’s Form S-1 registration statement, initially filed on Oct. 16, 2025, and its exhibits. VanEck Vice President Matthew A. Babinsky signed the letter.
VanEck confirmed that the registration had not been declared effective. No securities had been issued or sold under it, and no preliminary prospectus had been distributed.
Proposed Fund Would Have Held stETH Directly
The original prospectus described a fund designed to track the price of Lido staked Ether, known as stETH, after expenses. It would have held the token directly rather than simply holding unstaked Ether.
stETH represents Ether deposited through Lido and the staking rewards associated with those deposits. Its rebasing mechanism adjusts token balances to reflect rewards, providing staking exposure while allowing the token to be transferred or traded.
The proposed trust was a passive investment vehicle. Its prospectus said it would not use leverage or derivatives to pursue its investment objective.
VanEck Leaves Its Reason Unexplained
The withdrawal letter gives no commercial or regulatory explanation beyond the decision not to proceed with distributing shares. It does not identify a replacement product or a timetable for another filing.
The request concerns an offering that never became effective, rather than the closure of an operating ETF. It also does not establish an SEC rejection of the proposed product or a broader withdrawal by VanEck from Ether investments.
