OKX expanded Shield to U.S. customers on Oct. 20, allowing eligible users to seek reimbursement for assets stolen through unauthorized account takeovers. Limits range from $100,000 for regular customers to $500,000 for qualifying VIPs, with payment at OKX’s discretion.
OKX Sets Reimbursement Limits by Customer Tier
The exchange announced limits of up to $100,000 for eligible regular customers and $250,000 for qualifying VIP 1–3 customers. Qualifying customers at VIP 4 and above may receive up to $500,000.
There is no subscription or activation fee. Eligible incidents include unauthorized account access and asset transfers resulting from phishing, malware or SIM-swap attacks.
OKX Requires Security Settings and Prompt Claims
Customers must pass account and device checks, enable a passkey and facial verification for large withdrawals, disable web withdrawals and set the peer-to-peer (P2P) verification-code preference to “Always.” They must then accept the terms and manually activate Shield.
OKX checks linked devices for malware, rooting and jailbreaking. Shield is automatically suspended if continuing eligibility requirements are not met, and losses during that suspension are excluded.
Users must notify OKX and submit a formal claim within 72 hours of the last unauthorized transaction, then provide supporting information within seven days of submitting the claim. Late submissions are generally rejected, although OKX may consider documented unavoidable circumstances.
OKX Excludes Authorized Scam Transfers and Market Losses
Shield is a voluntary, discretionary reimbursement program, rather than insurance or a deposit guarantee. OKX reviews claims and does not promise payment merely because a loss falls below the displayed limit.
The terms exclude transfers customers personally authorize, including payments made after deception or impersonation. They also exclude trading losses and assets lost outside the exchange, including in OKX Wallet, OKX Pay and external wallets.
Each verified individual may receive reimbursement for only one approved claim across all OKX entities during their lifetime. A payment below the maximum still exhausts that eligibility, and amounts recovered elsewhere are deducted when calculating reimbursement.
