CoinGlass data showed $1.53 billion in leveraged crypto positions liquidated in an early Oct. 30 snapshot. Long positions, which benefit from rising prices, accounted for about $1.29 billion, or roughly 84%.

Bitcoin and Ether positions led the forced closures, while Binance handled nearly half the total. A rebound in prices subsequently began squeezing traders betting on further declines.

Long Positions Dominate the 24-Hour Liquidation Total

The figures cover a rolling 24-hour period and were published at 06:22 UTC. They measure the value of positions forcibly closed, rather than the amount of traders’ own collateral lost.

About $1.37 billion of the closures occurred in the most recent 12 hours, including $1.23 billion in long positions. That shorter window accounted for almost 90% of the full 24-hour total.

The concentration shows how heavily the liquidation wave fell on traders positioned for a rally. Forced closures accelerate when adverse price moves leave leveraged positions without enough margin to remain open.

Bitcoin and Ether Lead as Binance Handles Nearly Half

Bitcoin positions accounted for approximately $499 million in liquidations, followed by Ether at $358 million. Together, they represented about $857 million, or 56% of the total.

Solana positions added $82.6 million in forced closures, while XRP accounted for $38.1 million and Dogecoin for $18.6 million.

Binance recorded approximately $754.6 million in liquidations, including $670.6 million from long positions. Hyperliquid followed with $251.4 million and Bybit with $186.5 million.

Long positions represented about 89% of Binance’s liquidation total, compared with roughly 84% across the wider market.

The largest individual position liquidated in the snapshot was an approximately $11 million Bitcoin long on Binance.

The selloff unfolded during Binance’s investigation into a security incident affecting an estimated $6.3 billion. The exchange has pledged to cover losses using its emergency fund and company money.

Bitcoin’s Rebound Shifts Pressure to Short Sellers

Bitcoin recovered toward $78,500 after falling to around $76,460. Ether traded near $2,240 after briefly slipping below $2,200.

The rebound put pressure on short sellers. Shorts accounted for $57.3 million of the $85 million liquidated in the snapshot’s four-hour window.

The shift was sharper in the most recent hour. Short positions made up $20.6 million of $21.6 million in forced closures, approximately 95%, even as longs remained dominant across the full 24 hours.
