Zcash Price Prediction: NU7 Upgrade Could Help Push ZEC to $1,650
- Zcash’s upcoming NU7 network upgrade could catalyze a price return toward $1,650 if it successfully reaches mainnet.
- NU7 reduces target block spacing from 75 seconds to 25 seconds and introduces a Network Sustainability Mechanism.
- Developers will make a mainnet go/no-go decision on Oct. 20 with a targeted launch date of Nov. 5.
Zcash’s upcoming NU7 network upgrade is emerging as a potential catalyst for ZEC after the cryptocurrency pulled back from its September highs. One market analyst sees a possible return toward $1,650 if the upgrade reaches mainnet successfully, although ZEC would first need to recover from its current correction.
ZEC traded near $1,190 on Oct. 13, down from a September close above $1,650. The $1,650 level therefore represents a potential retest of recent highs rather than an unexplored price target.
NU7 Cuts Target Block Time to 25 Seconds
NU7 activated on Zcash’s public testnet at block 4,465,026 on Oct. 4. Its most visible change reduces target block spacing from 75 seconds to 25 seconds, which is designed to cut the average wait for a first confirmation by two-thirds.
The upgrade also introduces shielded-transaction limits and a Network Sustainability Mechanism. Under the current specification, 60% of transaction fees would be temporarily removed from circulation and credited to the Network Sustainability Mechanism for future reissuance, while the ZEC supply cap and halving schedule remain unchanged.
Developers plan to make the mainnet go/no-go decision and set an activation height on Oct. 20, with Nov. 5 remaining the targeted launch date if testing supports deployment.
Analyst Sees $1,650 Retest if Upgrade Succeeds
FXEmpire analyst Alejandro Arrieche identified NU7 as a possible project-specific catalyst after ZEC rebounded from the $1,150 area and encountered selling pressure around $1,300.
“We believe that this can be a robust project-specific tailwind that could lift the price of Zcash over the next coming months.”
His technical scenario places $1,650 back in focus if NU7 launches successfully and buyers regain control. The same analysis warns that a break below roughly $1,200 could send ZEC toward 1,000,withadeeperdeclinepotentiallyexposingthelow-800 range.
Mainnet Decision Remains the Key Milestone
NU7’s testnet performance does not guarantee either a mainnet launch or higher ZEC prices. Network upgrades can improve utility without producing a sustained market reaction, while broader crypto conditions can outweigh protocol-specific developments.
The Oct. 20 decision is therefore the next concrete milestone. Until developers confirm mainnet activation, the $1,650 scenario remains conditional on both the technical rollout and ZEC rebuilding momentum after its recent decline.
