RockawayX Acquires Relayer Capital to Expand Crypto Offerings in U.S.
Digital asset investment firm RockawayX has acquired crypto hedge fund Relayer Capital, adding a directional long-short strategy to its investment platform and expanding its presence in the United States. Relayer will be renamed the RockawayX Liquid Opportunities Fund following the transaction.
RockawayX manages approximately $2 billion in assets and already operates across venture investing, market-neutral strategies, infrastructure and onchain liquidity. The company did not disclose the financial terms of the acquisition.
Relayer Becomes Liquid Opportunities Fund
Relayer founder Austin Barack will join RockawayX as chief investment officer of the new fund and continue leading its investment strategy. The vehicle is open to new external investors and will focus on liquid crypto tokens and crypto-related equities that its managers consider undervalued.
The strategy uses long and short positions, including pair trades, to express views on individual assets while reducing broader market exposure when appropriate. Relayer was founded in 2024, with Barack previously serving as a partner at crypto investment firm CoinFund.
RockawayX CEO Viktor Fischer said the firm had known and invested alongside Barack for six years. He said:
“We only expand when we have the right people and investment approach.”
Acquisition Expands RockawayX’s US Presence
RockawayX said the acquisition strengthens its U.S. presence, with Barack based in the New York area. It also gives the firm a directional liquid strategy alongside its existing venture and market-neutral offerings.
RockawayX reported that Relayer’s strategy generated an estimated, unaudited net return of about 70% in 2026 through August 21, although past performance does not guarantee future results. Separately, Forbes reported that RockawayX is seeking $150 million for the new fund, citing people familiar with the matter.
The acquisition broadens the types of crypto investments RockawayX can offer while expanding its U.S. presence around the new liquid fund. Barack will remain responsible for the strategy as it moves under the RockawayX platform.
