Amazon’s market value is again approaching $3 trillion, while founder Jeff Bezos is separately reported to be part of a consortium seeking a minority stake in Liverpool Football Club. Amazon shares were trading around $274 on August 10, giving the company a market value of roughly $2.99 trillion.

The Liverpool investment is separate from Amazon and would be made through a group of private investors. According to reports, the consortium could reach an agreement with Liverpool owner Fenway Sports Group as early as this week.

Bezos Consortium Nears Liverpool Deal

The investor group includes Bezos and Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin and is led by former Queens Park Rangers shareholder Amit Bhatia. The consortium is reportedly in talks to acquire a stake of around one-third in Liverpool.

The reported terms imply a valuation of approximately £4.4 billion, or about $5.9 billion, for Liverpool. Neither Liverpool nor FSG had publicly confirmed an agreement as of August 10.

FSG previously confirmed that a consortium led by Bhatia had expressed interest in making a strategic minority investment. The group bought Liverpool for £300 million in 2010 and has continued to explore outside investment while maintaining control of the club.

Amazon Returns Toward $3 Trillion

Amazon first crossed the $3 trillion market-value mark on August 3 after shares climbed about 5% to a record $285.01. The milestone placed Amazon among the small group of companies that have reached a $3 trillion valuation.

The rally followed strong second-quarter results, particularly at Amazon Web Services. Amazon reported 20% year-over-year sales growth, while AWS revenue increased 37% and operating income rose 43%. Shares have since pulled back from their record, leaving Amazon just below the $3 trillion threshold. The gains followed stronger AWS results and continued investor attention on artificial intelligence infrastructure spending.

Liverpool Investment Would Remain a Minority Stake

A deal for roughly one-third of Liverpool would give the consortium a significant holding without transferring control away from FSG. The reported £4.4 billion valuation would also represent a sharp increase from the £300 million FSG paid for the club 16 years ago.

If completed, the deal would give Bezos a significant minority interest in one of Europe’s largest football clubs. The talks remain ongoing, however, and the reported terms could still change before any agreement is announced.
