Ripple and C2FO Plan Trade Finance Settlement on XRP Ledger
- Ripple and C2FO launched a project settling supplier invoices using RLUSD on the XRP Ledger.
- The initiative supports C2FO Instant Pay to move financing and settlement onto the blockchain.
- C2FO plans a limited United States rollout for Instant Pay over the coming months.
On Oct. 27, Ripple and C2FO introduced an initiative to settle supplier payments through the XRP Ledger using Ripple’s dollar-backed stablecoin, RLUSD. The planned service aims to shorten the time businesses wait for funds after securing early payment of approved invoices.
Instant Pay Targets Invoice Settlement Delays
The collaboration supports C2FO Instant Pay, a new service intended to move financing and settlement activity onto the public blockchain. Businesses would continue requesting early payments through C2FO, with participating capital providers supplying the funding.
The companies said invoice terms and due dates would remain as agreed. This separates the supplier’s accelerated receipt of funds from the buyer’s contractual payment schedule.
Early-payment financing and settlement address different parts of a business’s cash-flow problem. Financing makes money available before an invoice falls due, while settlement determines how quickly that money reaches the recipient.
RLUSD Provides the Settlement Asset
The payment model uses RLUSD for settlement on the XRP Ledger. RLUSD is designed to track the U.S. dollar, while XRP is the blockchain’s native asset.
The companies specifically identified RLUSD as the asset used to settle invoice payments. Ripple and C2FO said the ledger operates continuously and typically settles blockchain transactions within three to five seconds.
C2FO’s product page gives a different measure for the customer experience: funds reaching a designated account within minutes after invoice confirmation. That describes delivery to the recipient’s account, rather than promising the entire payment process takes three to five seconds.
Limited U.S. Rollout Planned
C2FO says Instant Pay will initially be available only in the United States, with a limited rollout planned over the coming months. Interested businesses can join a waitlist as access expands.
The service will operate inside C2FO’s existing platform using the same login. It also says:
“Customers will complete a one-time setup to connect a bank account and confirm remittance details”
Separately, Ripple and BNY said they were exploring a supply-chain financing initiative with C2FO focused on expanding investor access to receivables, which are amounts owed to businesses. That work concerns financing and distributing trade-finance assets, alongside the payment-settlement initiative described by Ripple and C2FO.
