The U.S. Justice Department has seized more than $560,000 in cryptocurrency that authorities say was intended to support Hamas, as part of a broader operation targeting the group’s online fundraising infrastructure. The FBI also took control of domains and servers allegedly used to solicit donations, direct supporters to payment channels and recruit participants.
The Justice Department announced the operation on September 1, although the cryptocurrency seizures were carried out under warrants dated March 25, June 25 and October 10, 2025. Authorities said the seized infrastructure and crypto addresses had been controlled on behalf of Hamas’ military wing, the Al Qassam Brigades.
FBI Traced Crypto Donations Through Online Fundraising
According to court documents cited by the DOJ, a group chat claiming an association with Hamas directed supporters to a fundraising website. Donors were then provided with a rotating set of cryptocurrency addresses through which they could send funds.
Investigators used information from multiple human sources to identify and trace approximately $560,000 in cryptocurrency that authorities allege was intended for the Al Qassam Brigades. The FBI also seized infrastructure connected to AlQassam.ps, which authorities said allowed investigators to intercept additional cryptocurrency donations and gather information about the fundraising network. U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro said:
“Your networks are not secure, your crypto is vulnerable.”
Authorities Obtain Information on Thousands of Contacts
The FBI said it obtained information on thousands of people who contacted online fundraising channels that authorities linked to Hamas while attempting to donate through cryptocurrency or traditional payment methods. The agency said that information could support future counterterrorism investigations and help authorities identify additional financing channels.
The operation adds to earlier U.S. enforcement actions involving alleged crypto financing connected to Hamas-linked networks. In July 2025, the Justice Department unsealed a separate civil forfeiture action involving approximately $2 million in digital assets that authorities linked to Gaza-based money-transfer business BuyCash.
DOJ Continues Targeting Crypto Fundraising Networks
The latest seizures do not target cryptocurrency generally. They focus on specific funds, wallets and online infrastructure that U.S. authorities allege were used to support a designated foreign terrorist organization.
The investigation combined blockchain tracing with traditional methods, including human sources, domain seizures and server access. Further enforcement could follow if authorities identify additional wallets, payment channels or participants connected to the same fundraising network.
