Neutrl Pauses NUSD Redemptions Over Reserve Issue
Neutrl has temporarily suspended NUSD minting, redemptions and other protocol functions after saying circumstances had affected protocol reserves. The synthetic-dollar protocol announced the pause on August 13 after taking legal advice while it assesses the impact.
Neutrl has not identified the affected asset, trading venue or counterparty, nor disclosed whether the incident caused a realized loss or liquidity shortfall. NUSD had roughly $53.6 million in circulation and continued trading close to its $1 target after the suspension.
Neutrl Gives no Timetable for Restoring NUSD Redemptions
The protocol said users will receive a clear and orderly process and that timing and next steps will be published when available. It has not provided an estimated date for restoring minting, redemptions or the other paused functions.
Neutrl has not said whether the reserve issue involves a trading loss, unavailable liquidity, a counterparty problem, an inaccurate valuation or another operational event. Its current reserve position therefore remains unclear until the protocol publishes updated figures.
Reserve Dashboard Stops Showing Current Asset Allocations
Neutrl’s reserve dashboard no longer shows a current detailed allocation across assets and venues, with reserve deployment and solvency figures being recalibrated. That makes earlier reserve snapshots unsuitable for describing the protocol’s financial position after the August 13 suspension.
Neutrl’s documented portfolio can include stablecoins, yield-bearing assets, hedged over-the-counter positions and market-neutral trading strategies held across custodians, exchanges and on-chain infrastructure. None of those categories has been identified by Neutrl as the source of the current reserve issue.
Strata Pauses More Than $1.7M in NUSD-Linked Products
Structured-yield protocol Strata also paused minting, redemptions and related functions for its Neutrl market. The restrictions cover srNUSD and jrNUSD, two tranche tokens built around yield-bearing sNUSD, while Strata said its other markets remain operational.
Available figures placed the two Neutrl-linked products at more than $1.7 million in combined displayed value around the time of the restrictions.
Neutrl has not said when redemptions will resume. Its next update is expected to clarify what affected the reserves, whether any loss or liquidity shortfall occurred and what process NUSD holders will follow once redemptions reopen.
