Metaplanet has introduced a Net Interest Income Strategy that will invest capital raised through preferred shares, bonds, and credit facilities in income-producing assets, with net returns intended to support further Bitcoin purchases and preferred share dividends.
The Tokyo-listed company is also revising its capital allocation policy, targeting about 85% to 90% of total assets in Bitcoin while reserving 10% to 15% for income investments, acquisitions and its asset management business.
Preferred Shares, BitBonds and Credit Facilities Will Fund Income Assets
Metaplanet plans to finance the income strategy through perpetual preferred shares, corporate bonds it calls BitBonds and its Bitcoin-collateralized credit facility.
The capital will be invested in assets expected to generate returns above Metaplanet’s financing costs. Preferred securities issued by other Bitcoin treasury companies are expected to be among those investments.
Net income from the portfolio can then support additional Bitcoin accumulation and payments on Metaplanet’s own preferred securities.
Bitcoin Borrowing Will Stay Near 10% of BTC NAV
Metaplanet plans to keep borrowing used specifically to acquire and hold Bitcoin at about 10% or less of its Bitcoin net asset value.
Permanent equity will remain the main funding source for direct BTC accumulation. Financing used for the new strategic investment allocation will be managed separately and will not fall under the same Bitcoin borrowing limit.
The distinction separates capital used to buy Bitcoin directly from financing used to build income-producing investments whose earnings can later support additional BTC purchases.
Metaplanet Held 44,000 BTC at End Of September
Metaplanet held 44,000 BTC as of Sept. 30 after selling 10,000 BTC during the third quarter and later acquiring 11,000 BTC.
The transactions left its holdings 1,000 BTC higher and were intended to demonstrate that part of the company’s Bitcoin reserve could be converted into cash when needed.
Its existing Bitcoin Income Generation business, which uses Bitcoin options to produce recurring revenue, generated 848.4 million yen in the third quarter. Revenue for the first nine months of 2026 reached 5.57 billion yen.
The new interest-income strategy adds another recurring cash-flow source while Bitcoin remains Metaplanet’s primary treasury asset.
